Elk River Newborn Session

Newborn sessions are quickly becoming my favorite kind of sessions to do. It is a fleeting time in a baby’s life that parents are trying to savor. Babies change so fast, and to be able to capture them in their earliest days is incredibly precious.

When I do newborn sessions I’m thinking about the things that parents talk about later down the road that they miss from the newborn stage- the snuggles, the tiny toes and fingers. I try to capture these in my sessions.

I also try to evoke the emotion that the newborn stage brings. To do this I capture parents doing things they are doing every day with baby, but in an artistic way. This freezes that moment and allows parents to look back and remember how special those times of talking to, cuddling, and feeding baby were.

You have to include ALL family members in the session too- including the furry ones :) These dogs are so sweet to baby Ellie.

It’s also fun to see the special touches families add to their sessions. One of the parent’s grandmothers passed a couple months before baby was born. Before she went though, she had gifted them with a little bunny for when baby arrived. It was a no-brainer that we included it in the session.

I love it when families add special touches like these. It makes it even more special that I get to capture the family’s moments. What an honor it was to meet sweet Ellie and encapsulate her newborn days.
